Set up your watch

Mostly waiting for the watch to charge. Do it somewhere with Wi-Fi.

What’s in the box

Check everything is there before you start.

  • JrTrack 5 SE smartwatch
  • Charging clip and wall adapter
  • Extra velcro band
  • Extra silicone band
  • Screen protector
  • Quickstart guide
  • Stickers
No SIM card to install. The JrTrack 5 SE uses an eSIM, so there is no SIM tray. Cellular service is switched on through the Cosmo app during setup.

Charge it first

Charge the watch fully before you start setup. Attach the charging clip to the back of the watch and plug in the wall adapter. A charging indicator appears on screen. A full charge takes about 90 minutes.

Watch won’t turn on? It almost always just needs charging. Leave it on the clip for at least 30 minutes, then try again.

Turn it on

Press and hold the On/Off button on the right side for 2 seconds until the screen lights up.

The first startup takes a few minutes while the watch finishes setup, installs updates, and connects to the Cosmo network. That is normal, let it run.

Finding your way around

Three tabs along the bottom, and one screen per child.

  • Home is the map with your child’s location.
  • Activity is a running feed of what has happened: arrivals, photos, step goals, low battery, SOS alerts.
  • Controls is where you’ll find your child profiles, your account, the Parent Portal, push notifications and support.
  • Child profile, reached by tapping a child in Controls, is where Routines, Contacts, Guardians, Alarms, App Station, Fitness, Location tracking, Preset messages, Safety features and history all live.

Each child’s profile

Tap a child in Controls to open their profile. This is the screen you will use most. It holds their watch, their Routines, everyone allowed to contact them, and every feature you can turn on or off.

Scroll down the same screen for Alarms, App Station, Fitness, Location tracking, Preset messages and Safety features, then call and location history at the bottom.

Invite a guardian

Guardians get their own login and their own copy of the app. Good for a second parent, a grandparent, or a nanny.

  1. Go to your child’s profile and tap Guardians.
  2. Tap + and enter their name and email address.
  3. They receive an invitation from no-reply@cosmotogether.com.
  4. They download the Cosmo app and create an account. The invite appears during onboarding for new users, or under Controls or Activity if they already have an account.

Once accepted, a guardian can:

  • See your child on the map, marked with a shield icon
  • Open the child profile in Controls
  • Receive activity updates and push notifications
  • Edit the child profile, location settings and safety settings
  • Manage location tracking, contacts, SafeZones, focus times and preset messages
  • View call history and fitness history
Guardians cannot touch billing. They have nearly the same day-to-day access as the primary parent, but they cannot change payment details or remove the primary parent’s account.

Contacts & buddies

Only people you approve can reach the watch. Unknown numbers never get through.

The three contact types

ContactCan call and text the watch. No invitation needed, they work the moment you add them.
GuardianCan call, text, and see your child’s location. Must accept an email invitation first.
BuddyAnother child’s watch. The two kids add each other over Bluetooth, then both parents approve.

Add a contact

  1. Go to your child’s profile and tap Contacts.
  2. Tap +.
  3. Choose an existing phone contact or create a new one.
  4. Enter their name and phone number.
  5. Select which watches this contact can reach.
  6. Tap the blue check to save.

The contact appears on the watch immediately.

Add a guardian

  1. Follow the same steps as adding a contact, but choose Guardian as the type.
  2. Enter their name and email address.
  3. They receive an invitation email to accept.
  4. They download the Cosmo app, create an account, go to My Devices, and tap Confirm.

Add a buddy

Buddies let two kids add each other from their own watches. Both parents still have the final say.

  1. Both watches need to be near each other with Bluetooth on.
  2. Each child opens the Add a Buddy app, the purple icon on the last app page, and finds the other watch.
  3. Both children tap the checkmark to confirm.
  4. A pending request appears in each parent’s app under the child’s Contacts and on the Activity page.
  5. In Controls, tap the child with the blue dot next to their photo, then Contacts › Review, then approve or reject.
  6. Once both parents approve, the two kids can call and text each other.

Removing a buddy works the same way as removing any contact.

Remove a contact

  1. Go to your child’s Contacts.
  2. Tap the contact you want to remove.
  3. Tap Remove Contact.

They disappear from the app and the watch immediately.

Location & GPS

Where they are, how often it refreshes, and how to see where they have been.

See where your child is

Your child’s current location shows as a pin on the Home map. Tap the pin to start Live Tracking. Every location reading is saved to Location history, which you reach from their profile.

Turn on Wi-Fi for better indoor accuracy. GPS struggles inside buildings. Wi-Fi gives the watch a much better fix at school or at home.

How often location updates

You decide how often the watch reports its location. The default is every 30 minutes, between 7am and 7pm in the watch’s own timezone.

  1. Tap your child’s profile in the Cosmo app.
  2. Go to Location tracking.
  3. Pick your interval: 5, 10, 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or switch updates off entirely.
  4. Choose whether updates run all day or only during a time window you set.
  5. Tap the blue check to save.
More frequent updates use more battery. Setting 5 minutes will noticeably shorten the day compared to the 30-minute default. The JrTrack 5 SE is built for 24+ hours at default settings. If the battery is draining faster than you expect, lengthen the interval or limit updates to daytime hours.

Frequency and schedule, both on one screen

Live Tracking

Live Tracking runs HaloGPS at full power, refreshing every 5 to 10 seconds for up to 15 minutes.

  1. From the Home map, tap your child’s pin.
  2. Tap Track.
  3. Location refreshes every 5 to 10 seconds until you close the app or 15 minutes pass.
Use it in bursts, not as a default. Live Tracking drains the battery quickly. It is designed for the moments you need real-time reassurance.

Location history

A timestamped trail of where the watch has been.

  1. From the Home map, tap the profile.
  2. Tap Location history.
  3. Use the calendar to pick a date.

Routines & School-Fi

Rules that fire on their own, based on where your child is and what time it is.

What Routines are

Routines are location and time based rules that change what the watch can do, automatically. Instead of turning settings on and off by hand, you set them once and Cosmo handles the rest.

The most useful one is the School Routine. It puts the watch into a focused, distraction-free mode the moment your child arrives on campus, and releases it when they leave.

Set up School Routine

  1. In the Cosmo app, tap Add Routine and choose the school icon. If you have no Routines yet, you will see Add your first Routine.
  2. Search for your child’s school by name. If it is not listed, type the address manually.
  3. Review the school schedule and adjust the days and hours.
  4. Pick a restriction level.
  5. Tap Save.
It uses location and schedule together. If your child is home sick, the Routine stays off. There is nothing to override manually.

What each restriction level does

Fully restricted

  • SOS
  • Calls and messages
  • 911 calling
  • Apps, camera, games

Partially restricted

  • SOS
  • Calls and messages to parents and guardians
  • 911, if you enabled it
  • Apps, camera, games

Unrestricted

  • SOS
  • All calls and messages
  • 911, if you enabled it
  • Apps, camera, games

When the Routine ends, the watch returns to normal on its own. Children cannot switch a Routine off. Only the primary parent and guardians can change or disable one.

Other Routines

Beyond school, you can build your own location and time based Routines. A common one is being notified when your child gets home from school, or leaves a friend’s house.

  1. In the Cosmo app, tap Routines, then Add Routine.
  2. Name it and set a location, by searching an address, dropping a pin, or typing an address.
  3. Set the days and times it should be active.
  4. Choose the restriction level and your notification preferences.
  5. Tap Save.
Arrival alerts are only as fast as your update interval. They fire off the back of location updates, so a shorter interval means quicker notifications, at the cost of battery.

Calls & messages

Real phone number, real SMS, and a walled garden around it.

Calling

Your child can only call, and be called by, approved contacts and guardians. Unknown numbers cannot reach the watch at all.

  • Incoming calls: green button to accept, red to decline.
  • To call someone: tap the phone icon on the first app page, pick a contact, and tap to call.
  • Volume during a call: tap the speaker icon in the top right.

Messaging

The JrTrack 5 SE has a real phone number and sends real SMS. Your child can send and receive texts, photos, voice memos and video with approved contacts, straight from your normal messaging app.

  • Open messages: tap the blue message icon on the first app page.
  • Pick a contact, then choose keyboard, image or video, or voice memo.
  • Preset messages are one-tap replies. Edit them in the Cosmo app under your child’s profile › Preset messages.
  • Voice to text: tap the microphone in the message field to dictate, tap again to stop.

Preset messages on the watch

Preset messages are how younger kids reply without typing. They ship with a starter set, and you can edit, remove or add your own from the Cosmo app.

Group messages

The watch can join a group text of up to 8 people, as long as everyone in the group is already an approved contact or guardian.

Review your child’s messages

Full message history lives in the Parent Portal, not in the Cosmo app. Log in there to read conversations.

Your child is not notified. They cannot see when you review their messages.

Music

Kids can stream Spotify, Spotify Kids and iHeartRadio on the watch. Music works over Wi-Fi only, it will not stream over cellular.

  1. Make sure the watch is on Wi-Fi.
  2. In the Cosmo app, open the child profile, tap App Station, and install the music app you want.
  3. On the watch, open the app and sign in with your child’s account.
  4. Save songs or playlists for offline playback so they work away from Wi-Fi.
Bluetooth is for audio only. You can pair headphones or a speaker, but Bluetooth does not carry phone calls.

App Station

You install the apps. Your child cannot add anything themselves.

Install an app

  1. Make sure the watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. In the Cosmo app, go to App Station. You can also reach it from the Parent Portal at parent.cosmotogether.com.
  3. Browse the library and tap Download.

The app appears on the watch once it finishes downloading.

Downloads need Wi-Fi. Leave the watch on its charger for anything large.

Set a time limit

  1. In App Station, tap an installed app.
  2. Tap Set Time Limit and choose a daily allowance.

Once the allowance runs out, the app locks until the next calendar day.

Remove an app

  1. Find the installed app in App Station.
  2. Tap Uninstall. It is removed from the watch remotely.
Unpairing does not remove apps. They stay on the watch until you uninstall them through App Station.

Alarms & activity

Set an alarm from the app

  1. In the Cosmo app, open Controls and tap Activity Center.
  2. Tap Alarms, then the blue +.
  3. Set the time, name and days of the week, then tap Save.

Alarms you set appear on the watch with a gold star. Your child cannot edit or delete them.

Set an alarm from the watch

  1. Swipe to the second app page and tap the yellow Alarms app.
  2. Tap New Alarm, set the time and repeat schedule, then tap the blue checkmark.

SOS & emergency

Worth reading before you need it, and worth walking your child through once.

SOS mode

SOS does not call 911. It alerts you and your guardians. If you want your child to be able to reach emergency services, turn on 911 calling separately.

SOS sends an immediate silent alert to the primary parent and every guardian, and starts Live Tracking on its own.

How your child starts it

  1. Press and hold the side button for 5 seconds.
  2. A silent 15-second countdown runs, so an accidental press can be canceled.
  3. Once it confirms, the alert goes out and Live Tracking begins.

What you receive

  • A push notification and an alert in the Cosmo app straight away
  • Automatic Live Tracking, updating every 10 seconds for 15 minutes
  • If you call the watch while SOS is active, it connects silently, so you can hear what is happening without your child knowing you are listening, unless they change the watch volume

Turning it off

Only the primary parent can end SOS. Open the Cosmo app, tap the SOS notification or go to the watch controls screen, and tap Turn Off SOS.

911 calling

911 calling is off by default. When you turn it on, your child can call emergency services from the watch, behind a double confirmation and a 5-second countdown so it cannot be triggered by accident.

To turn it on

  1. Open your child’s profile and tap Safety features.
  2. Enable Show emergency calling.
Not available in a fully restricted Routine. If the watch is in full lockdown, 911 calling is switched off along with everything else. Use partially restricted if you want emergency calling to stay available during school.
